Black Professional Men, Inc.

Black Professional Men, Inc. (BPM) is a nonprofit organization based in Baltimore, Maryland. BPM was established in 1991 to address the social, economic, and political awareness needs of the African-American community; especially those of the African-American male. BPM is a 100% volunteer organization. Our Members participate in a variety of community service initiatives to provide our youth with exposure to different experiences and positive role models. We host seminars, workshops, and field trips within the Baltimore metro area for the young men and boys that we mentor. We sponsor our mentees on a cultural and educational trips, attend Baltimore Raven’s games, and attend the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Conference. And of course, each year we host the Rays of Hope Scholarship Breakfast, where we award college scholarships to 10 deserving young men.

About

BPM members serve as mentors and as role models for young African-American men primarily in and around the Baltimore metro region. Members are also active in other mentoring programs, conduct speaking engagements across the state, and serve on non-profit boards aimed at helping develop the African-American community. We attempt to instill a sense of pride in our mentees to be strong African-American men. We work to make positive changes in their lives both in school and in the community in an effort to prepare them to take advantage of life’s opportunities.

Why do we exist?

  • Media images and public statistics for the African-American community emphasize the negatives. Whereas, the positive images go unnoticed or made to seem like the rare instance.
  • According to reports, African-Americans have $400 billion in purchasing power.  However, that $400 billion purchasing power leaves the African-American community quickly without working to empower the African-American community.
  • There are many laws enacted that directly affect the African-American community. However, many African Americans are not involved in the political process.

An awareness of social, economic, and political issues empower the African-American community. Through our efforts, these issues are addressed.
